Chef Raffaele Sainato was born in Gioiosa Ionica, a small town in the province of Calabria, Italy. He emigrated to Albany, New York, in August 1974 and began his career and love affair with food at the Italian American Community Center. Shortly thereafter, he went on to become Head Chef at Michele Da Verona in 1983 until late 1991, and then onto Lombardo’s in downtown Albany, as Head Chef from January 1992 until September 2008. He and his sous chef, Abdullah Zinneddine, have worked together since 1989. Their passion for Italian food and a strong work ethic led them to open Tesoro, meaning “treasure”, in September 2008. Our family run restaurant would like to invite you to come in and let us show you how very much we treasure the art of cooking, but more importantly, how we treasure you.
